About MeLewis S. Blevins, Jr., M.D., born in 1961 in Havre de Grace, Maryland, now resides in San Francisco, California.
Lewis paints exclusively in oils on stretched canvas and linen covered boards to represent his interpretations of California and Irish Landscapes, still life, and figurative works. He has painted in Ireland with Ray Elwood, a well-known plein air oil painter and watercolorist from Northern Ireland. He draws his inspiration from the works of James Humbert Craig and John Singer Sargent. Nashville artist Michael Shane Neal, with whom he has studied portraiture, has had a significant influence on his attitudes towards painting. Lewis uses Silver Brush Grand Prix paint brushes and Old Holland oil paints to create his inspiring works. He employs palettes crafted by Mike Balsley of Turtlewood Palettes. His en plein air painting supplies are crafted by Open Box M. His studio is outfitted with a Hughes Model 2010 easel. Lewis is also a musician and plays the Uilleann pipes, often referred to as the Irish Bagpipes, when not occupied with his painting. He has published a travelogue of his journeys in Ireland, Tea in Connemara, illustrated with images of his paintings, many of them completed en plein air during his travels. |
